How Can Technology Improve Learning?
This is the home page for Researching Current Issues in ITEC, Fall, 2011.
Jonassen, Peck, and Wilson (1999) argue that it is not the technology per se that students learn from, but the thinking that occurs while using the technology to make meaning of the work they are doing. It is thinking while engaging with information provided by the technology, initiated by the the student, and manipulated by the student. Technology supports learning in an indirect way. "Learning results from thinking".
The class has elected to form virtual teams to contribute to the following topics:
Critical Thinking Processes: Blogs, Wikis, Concept Mapping |
This topic focuses on the issue of using technology to improve critical thinking with the use of Blogs, Wikis, and Concept Mapping. |
Integration of instructional technology into curriculum |
This topic is open to explore what is meant by integration of technology. Does that mean the same thing to everyone? How can a teacher integrate technology? Why is it important? What research supports the benefits of technology integration? |
Presentation Tools |
This topic provides insight into different types of presentations tools through an overview, research articles, and media presentations to illustrate how and why these tools can be useful to teachers in the classroom. |
Virtual Teams in Learning Environments |
This topic covers the effective use of virtual teams for teaching and learning perspectives, in different types of organizations (K- 12, corporate, non-profit, etc.). |
Learning with RSS feeds |
Although RSS feeds do not get the attention that blogs and wikis do, web feeds can be very useful in the classroom to enhance learning. |
Learning with Podcasting |
Podcasting is a popular technology often used in higher education. Although listening to podcasts can improve learning, the real educational value in podcasting is through student-generated podcasts. |

I think that as we move forward, we should remove the individuals' names from this page as well as instructions on how to edit the wiki. I also think that under each subtopic we should include a brief summary of what each topic covers. Thoughts?

I agree with you Matt. The changes you suggest would make it more formal and just give it a more concise look.
