The following are existing online applications for formative assessment:

 


 

  • Edcite 


Edcite is a free website which allows teachers to create online assignments which model the format of standardized tests questions aligned with the Common Core State Standards to help students become 
familiar with these question types.   Teachers can create their own or modify existing questions.  There are even technology-enhanced question types which are similar to those found on standardized tests.  After students complete assigned assessments, teachers are provided with detail data about the results.  http://www.edcite.com/ 
 


 

 

  • Kahoot! 


Kahoot is a review game which encourages student engagement through friendly competition.  Students receive points for each correct answer and how quickly they answer.  The pace of the game is controlled by the teacher who advances each question.  Rankings are shown between each question and teachers can see the data in a chart at the completion of the game.

  • Socrative   


Socrative allows teachers to create formative assessment short quizzes and exit tickets for their students.  Students enter with a code and are assigned the quiz by teacher.  Teacher can see instant results of students which is color coding to make it easier to analyze data.

An extension review game through Quizlet.com.  Quizlet live allows students to collaborate and discuss with their peers after being assigned to teams.

Quizizz a fun multiplayer classroom activity that allows your students to practice together. Much like Kahoot! you are able to pick from a library of already made multiple choice quizzes or create your own. Quizziz however, lets students answer questions at their own pace with an unlimited time option.

Students are awarded points based on how quick their response times are and receive immediate feedback. Google Forms allow teachers to create surveys and graded quizzes to be completed by students.  Quiz results include frequently-missed questions and basic statistics (average, median, and range).  Google Forms is included within Google Apps for Education.

This application allows instructors to make videos more interactive by adding voice notes and quiz questions to engage student viewers.  Other features include video trimming, "no-skip" feature, automatic pausing, and viewing analytics.  You can make video lessons from pre-existing online videos or upload your own videos.

  • Plickers


If your classroom hasn't gone 1:1 or if a majority of students don't have access to their own device Plickers is a fantastic resources. Once you have signed up you can print out unique digital images for each of your students. Depending on the way the image is held it represents a different response. A teacher can use their own device then to quickly scan student's responses for quizzes or polls.

GoSoapBox is a web-based clicker tool used by educators around the world to keep students engaged and gain real-time insight into student comprehension. GoSoapBox's intuitive Confusion Barometer lets students indicate whether or not they are getting it.
